Change to Off-Campus access to the URC HPC Environment
Users who log in to the URC High Performance Computing Environment (HPC) currently use Secure Shell (SSH) to connect to hpc.uncc.edu directly. Unfortunately, SSH is a frequent target for hackers to attempt unauthorized access to resources.
To protect against such attacks, URC is taking steps to strengthen the security of its SSH access.
Beginning Monday, May 11, 2020, users who are off-site (not on campus) will be required to connect to the UNC Charlotte Virtual Private Network (VPN) before using SSH to connect to hpc.uncc.edu. On-campus access will remain as is.
As the VPN has limited bandwidth, users are strongly encouraged to request access to the URC Data Transfer Node (DTN) for large data transfers to the URC HPC environment.
